Name of Art Piece:

Queen of Play

Dimensions:

32x24

Media:

Spay Paint and Playing Cards

Date of Completion:

September 30, 2009

Concept:

For this piece I wanted to experiment with different mediums. I first drew out the image of the girl and turned this sketch into my own personal stencils for the piece. Before creating this piece I had recently been to an exhibit of Shepard Fairey’s work, and was inspired by the idea of spray paint and stencils. I wanted to used cards as my background image to add another layer to the piece, and I felt as though the image of the girl was similar to that of the queens on the cards. I have always had an interest in masks and I wanted to try to see how detailed I could get with the decoration on the mask. I also wanted to only use a small color palette to help keep the idea of the playing cards consistent throughout the piece.
